HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Local Operation Christmas Child volunteers are celebrating a successful season, having reached their goal of collecting over 31,000 shoebox gifts from South Central Kansas, including 10,998 collected from two drop-off locations in Hutchinson.

The shoebox gifts, filled with school supplies, personal care items and fun toys, are on their way to children in over 100 countries around the world. Those who registered their box online can now track it to discover its final destination. “We are incredibly thankful for each individual, family, group and church who took the time to pack a shoebox and share the love of Jesus with a child”, said drop off team leader volunteer Kim Sawyer.

This was the first year for Hutchinson’s Salt Mine Kansas area team. Until this year, all Operation Christmas Child volunteers were based out of Wichita. “One of the things I love about volunteering for Operation Christmas Child is meeting and working with people from different churches, different walks of life, that I would never meet otherwise”, said Dawnita Miller.
