LaRue Edna McAllaster was born in Little River, KS, on October 20, 1932. LaRue was the second child of Glen and Georgia McAllaster. Her brother, Clarence, preceded her in death. LaRue married Loren Webb in 1950. After his sudden death, she began her college studies. LaRue earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Education from Wichita State University. She taught business law, accounting, and keyboarding, for 19 years at Nickerson (KS) High School, as well as evening classes at Hutchinson Community College (formerly Hutchinson Community Junior College).
In 1978, LaRue married John Nuest, who joined her as a long-time member of Crossroads Christian Church, Hutchinson. Her church family was a constant blessing, and she especially enjoyed supporting missions of the church.
Only her family and faith meant more to her than quilting. Larue served as President of the Kansas Quilters Organization, of which she was a lifetime member. She also belonged to numerous guilds in the region, taught quilting classes at shops and gatherings throughout the state, and participated in too many stitch groups to count.
LaRue Nuest is survived by her four children, David (Mary) Webb, Daryl (Rae Lynn) Webb, Diana Webb, and Dixie (John Scaife) Webb; grandchildren, Josh, Bryan, and Megan Webb, Matthew and Scott Anderson, and Thomas and Liam Scaife; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Private funeral service will be Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Crossroads Christian Church, with Pastors Wayne Pittman and Kevin Guffey officiating. The service will be available at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
