HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In a high flying fast paced contest the Butler Community College Grizzlies downed the Snow College Badgers in the first game at the Sports Arena 101 -96.
The Grizzlies led all but 8 seconds of the contest that saw just two lead changes and three ties. Butler came out to the starting blocks with a strong defense forced 10 turnovers by the Badgers in the first six minutes of the contest. Riding that wave, the Grizzlies had a 18-point lead at the 6:49 mark of the first half.
But Snow came back with a 9-point scoring run that began on a turnover at the 5:41 mark of the first half and pulled to within one at the half 48-47.
The Badgers held close to the Grizzlies in the second half but couldn't overtake the Butler.
The Grizzlies were led in scoring by Tristan Hankins and Jaise Combs who each had 21. Also in double figures for Grizzlies was Xavier Brown with 16. Butler shot 41.7 % from the floor hitting 40 of 96 attempts. they were 13 or 52 from behind the arc.
For Snow College they were led in scoring by McCaden Adams with 26, followed by Brock McClure with 20. Max Toombs added 15 and Sean Felts added 12. The Badgers shot 45.8 5 from the floor on 33 of 72 attempts. Unlike their previous contest the were only 7 of 25 from behind the arc. Against Trinidad state they shot 18 of 27 from bonus land.
Snow ends their season at 29 -5. Butler will next play on Wednesday afternoon at Noon against top-seed Howard College.
