Newton Police and Fire/EMS are assisting in the investigation of an exploded device found Thursday morning in the 1500 block of North Anderson. The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and ATF are on-scene.

At around 5:20 a.m. Newton Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area but found no evidence. At around 10:25 a.m., a cyclist reported what appeared to be an exploded homemade device in the street.

North Anderson is closed to traffic between 15th Street and Terrace Drive. Investigators expect to remove the device and reopen the street by 3 p.m.
