HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson is looking to help on National Nonprofit Day, which is August 17.
"How things wind up in unclaimed property can sometimes be a mystery," Johnson said. "We are looking forward to a chance to focus on searching and seeing what we can find, and we've had a little bit of luck this week. We got excited for the KSU Foundation because there is a whole bunch, but there are like 20 properties each for $2.64. But it was a couple thousand and we had quite a bit for KU Med."
If you are part of a nonprofit, it's worth a look at https://unclaimedproperty.ks.gov/ to see if there is anything there.
"If somebody inquires, we'll give them a list of exactly what they need to send in and make sure that we can get through the process as neatly as possible," Johnson said.
The website provides step-by-step instructions and resources to facilitate the reclaiming process. Nonprofits may also inquire about the unclaimed property process by emailing [email protected] or calling (785) 291-3171.
