Rev. James D. “Jim” Gingerich, 89, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Newton Medical Center. He was born September 3, 1932 in Harrisburg, New York, the son of Nicholas and Dorothy (Mosher) Gingerich.
Jim graduated from Lowville High School in New York. He later graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and a Master’s of Divinity from Goshen Bible Seminary in Goshen, Indiana.
He was a lifelong minister, starting his career at Warden Mennonite Church in Warden, Washington. He later ministered at Burrton Mennonite Church in Burrton, Kansas, until his final move to First Mennonite Church of Christian in Moundridge, Kansas, where he spent 26 and ½ years, retiring in 1997. A day after his retirement, Jim started working for General Conference in Newton, Kansas, as director of Mennonite Men from 1997 until 2010. Jim later worked as a bookkeeper and financial advisor for several businesses, and worked in sales for his son until his death.
He was united in marriage to Roberta Sally Janzen on August 25, 1956 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. She survives.
Other survivors include his son, Darwin (Jodi) Gingerich of Moundridge; daughters, Lynette (James) Allen of Moundridge, and Kara Revell of Salina; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marie Snider and her husband, Howard.
Private graveside services will be held at First Mennonite Church Cemetery, Moundridge. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021 at First Mennonite Church of Christian in Moundridge.
