HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In a game that would best fit in prime time the top seeded Howard College Hawks outlasted the Butler Community College Grizzlies in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon 134-128.
Butler fought its way back from an 18-point deficit in the second half to battle back to a 102-all tie at the end of regulation. The teams scored 14 points each in the first overtime and Howard outscored Butler 18-12 to close the game out.
Leading the way for Butler Community College was Josiah Kirkwood with 31. Also, in double figures for the Grizzlies Tristian Hankins with 27, Dominic Pleasants with 23, and Tim Walker II with 17.
The Grizzlies shot 39.6 % from the floor as they were 40-101 with 11 three pointers. They missed one free throw as they were 37 of 38.
For the top seeded Howard College Hawks, they were led in scoring by Kuai Deng and Terry Copeland with 31. Also in double digits were Brandon Ivery wit 26 and Elijah Tshibangu with 14. The Hawks shot 64% from the floor on 50 of 77 with 6 treys in the contest.
Butler ends its season at 25-10.
