WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM

CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation changing to snow. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Locally  higher snow amounts are possible just west of the turnpike  corridor.

* WHERE...Portions of Central, South Central and Southeast  Kansas.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on hazardous road conditions. Blowing and  drifting snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially  on Thursday. The hazardous wintry conditions will have the  greatest impact on the Thursday morning commute. The combination  of gusty winds and the weight of snow and ice could bring down  tree branches and lead to scattered power outages.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Where snow occurs, snowfall rates of one to  two inches per hour will be possible Thursday morning. The  timing of the heaviest precipitation rates is expected from 4   am to noon Thursday.
