SHAWNEE COUNTY —Nobody was injured in a fire at a home when the resident attempted to heat a frozen water line.
Just after noon Saturday, crews responded to a home at 635 NE Poplar Street in Topeka, according to Fire Marshall Todd Harrison. Upon arrival fire crews found smoke coming from the single story wood frame residence. The man who lived in the home escaped without injury.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, associated with the heating of a frozen water line.
The estimated dollar loss – $36,000.00; of which $35,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $1,000.00 associated with contents loss.Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Harrison.
