HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The dirt has officially been moved as part of the ongoing construction at Hobart-Detter Field, as the playing surface is transformed from a natural grass and dirt to artificial turf.
Hobart-Detter Field was opened in 1928 and has been an all-natural playing surface since then.
The turf will be instrumental in allowing games to be played in the rain, unlike prior when a substantial amount of rain would cause for a delay and in several cases a postponement or cancellation.
Hobart-Detter Field is home to Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Monarchs and several tournaments throughout the year.
