HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A structural engineer inspected the Bernards restaurant building Monday, according to a report provided to the City Manager by Hutch in Harmony. His report will be available later this week.
With that information in hand, the City Council has moved to give Susan Gress and Hutch in Harmony a path to follow to get the building taken off of the city's demolition list.
The removal is contingent on the city recieving a building permit that has been approved based on the design of an engineering shoring plan to secure the facility in a safe manner and to prevent further deterioration.
Since the building is already approved as an applicant for the state historical registry, Hutch in Harmony is working with the state historical registration to finalize the registry of the building. The state historical process is estimated to take up to eighteen months.
