WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge allowed five unanswered runs in a 5-2 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday afternoon at Equity Bank Park, settling for a split of the six-game series.

Wichita took an early 2-0 lead behind RBI hits from Jaime Ferrer and Caden Kendle, but Corpus Christi answered with a pair of home runs in the middle innings.

Ferrer opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single to center field. Kendle doubled the lead in the third, driving a 105 mph RBI double to bring home another run.

The Hooks erased the deficit in the fourth when they hit a two-run home run to tie the game. Corpus Christi took control an inning later with a three-run homer that gave the Hooks a 5-2 advantage.

Wichita's bullpen kept the game within reach from there. Spencer Bengard, Jacob Webb and Kyle Bischoff combined for four scoreless innings, while Hunter Gregory did not allow an earned run in his appearance.

Wind Surge starter Ty Langenberg allowed two runs over four innings. Wichita pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts, marking the team's 49th game this season with double-digit strikeouts.

Kendle finished with his 12th multi-hit game of the season and drove in a run for the second straight game. Jake Rucker extended his on-base streak to 18 games, while Garrett Spain and Jorel Ortega each stretched their on-base streaks to eight games.

Wichita fell to 20-25 with the loss, while Corpus Christi improved to 23-22. The teams split the six-game series, three games apiece.

The Wind Surge will open a six-game road series against the Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday at Riders Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
