HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 10 Trinity Valley Cardinals started off hot with a 10-0 lead in the first 2:25 of game four against the Georgia Highlands Chargers. The Cardinals beat the Chargers 61-54 in the first round of the tournament Sunday at the Sports Arena.
Sophomore guard Ahamad Bynum led Trinity Valley with 22 points. Freshman guard Jay'Quan Nelson led Georgia Highlands with 19.
Trinity Valley led 29-18 at halftime. The Cardinals maintained a lead throughout the entire game despite being outrebounded by Georgia Highlands 23-10.
Trinity Valley shot 40.6% from the field compared to Georgia Highlands who shot 31.9% from the field.
Georgia Highlands went 0-10 from the 3-point line in the first half and ended with only 18.2% from distance on the night. Trinity Valley shot 25.0% from the 3-point line.
Trinity Valley will face the No.7 Triton College Trojans tomorrow night at 9:30 p.m. The play-by-play will be led by Glen Grunwald and Rick Kraus on Country 102.9 FM and KWBW 1450 AM/98.5 FM.
