
BARTON COUNTY —Two drivers avoided serious injury in an accident just after 10a.m. Friday in Barton County.
A 2017 Toyota Prius driven by Shay McCoskey, 34, Great Bend was westbound on NW 50 Road and failed to yield right of way at a stop sign at the intersection of 30 Avenue, according to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir.
A southbound 2018 Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer loaded with distiller grain and driven by Donald Berens, 60, Russell, struck the Prius.
The impact pushed the Toyota south of the intersection approximately 430 feet. McCoskey received minor lacerations and declined transport by ambulance, according to Bellendir. Berens was not injured in the collision.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation and crews from the Barton County Highway.Department cleared the road of spilled grain. The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by units from the Great Bend Fire Department and EMS as well as a unit from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
