Hutchinson voters will decide today whether to approve a proposed city sales tax in a special election that will determine funding priorities for the community.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

One significant change for this election affects voters who normally cast ballots at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Those voters will instead vote at Memorial Hall.

In addition to in-person voting, advance ballots must be received by the Reno County Clerk’s Office no later than 7 p.m. Tuesday to be counted. Ballots that arrive after the deadline cannot be accepted under Kansas law. Officials emphasize that ballots must be in the clerk’s possession by 7 p.m. — postmarks do not qualify.

The sales tax question has drawn significant public discussion in recent weeks, with supporters and opponents outlining differing views about the measure’s long-term impact on the community.

Voters who encounter issues at the polls or have questions about their ballot are encouraged to contact the Reno County Clerk’s Office for assistance.
