HUTCHINSON, Kan.—The Hutchinson Monarchs put together two big innings with 7 runs in the 2nd and 6 runs in the 3rd inning to defeat Wichita 316 Elite 16-0 in 5 innings last night (June 17) at Hobart Detter Field.
The decisive blow was Austin Schneider's grand slam coming in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Schneider was 2 for 3 with 5 RBI's to lead the 16 hits that the Monarchs had for the evening. Will Stark was a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 stolen bases and an RBI along with Alex Birge going 2 for 2. Sawyer Thornhill 3 for 4 including a triple and 1 RBI plus catcher Joey Baran, the new guy, went 2 for 3 with a triple and a stellar defensive play late in the game.
Clay Wesbrooks earned the win by going 3 innings as the starter. Brett Wiemers and Braden Davis were solid in relief picking up some innings pitch to close out the contest.
Hutchinson (8-3) and Elite 316 (0-7) will face off again tonight (June 18) at Hobart-Detter Field starting at 7 pm with the pregame starting at 6:50pm on Hutchpost.com and monarchslive.tv. It will be Cancer Awareness night with free admission with a good will donation to help support the Cancer Council of Reno County. A silent auction of HutchCC baskets, a signed Monarch team bat and special player worn jerseys will take place.
