⚾ Royals hire Mike McFerran as assistant pitching coach

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they have hired Mike McFerran to serve as Major League Assistant Pitching Coach. He will work closely with Pitching Coach Brian Sweeney.

McFerran, 32 spent the last two seasons with the Athletics, joining in 2024 as Pitching Performance Coach before serving as Minor League Pitching Coordinator in 2025.

Before that, he was the Pitching Lab Coordinator and Director of Player Development at Wake Forest from 2021-23. Wake had its winningest team in program history in 2023, and 10 pitchers drafted in McFerran’s three years, including two in the top 10. McFerran joined Wake Forest from Skidmore College, where he was Associate Head Coach, Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator from 2017-20.

McFerran is originally from Lake George, N.Y., and pitched at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., where he received an MBA in Sports Administration.

He and his wife, Dr. Emily McFerran, live in Huntington Beach, Calif.
