HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hopeful entrepreneurs can learn the fundamentals of starting and running a business through the Entrepreneurship Business Basics JUMP© (EBB JUMP) program March 21 through June 6, sponsored by StartUp Hutch, The City of Hutchinson – Human Relations Office, Network Kansas and the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce. This 12-week course is geared toward those who might not consider themselves to be entrepreneurs with the goal of helping transform their business from idea to launch.
“We’re really hoping to connect folks to the system who might otherwise be intimidated or uncertain about how to proceed with entrepreneurship. Whether that’s a person from a minority group, or a rural white person living in poverty, we want everyone with an entrepreneurial interest to know that this is for them,” said Dave Sotelo, Human Relations Officer, City of Hutchinson. “Maybe you’re making goods and selling them on Facebook Marketplace, but you don’t know where to begin when it comes to taking that next step. Sign up for this class, and you’ll learn the basics and beyond.”
The class will meet every Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This course is valued at $700, but for those who sign up by March 6, the fee is $50, and $100 for those who sign up March 7 or later. On the last day of the course, a pitch contest will be held with the winner earning $1,000 to help make their business a reality.
"This is a great opportunity for people to get a wealth of knowledge for only a little investment. We know there are folks in Reno County with great ideas that just need a little help learning the ropes to turn their dreams into reality. We're looking forward to providing those 'unlikely' entrepreneurs with an opportunity to learn how to launch or grow their business," said Jackson Swearer, Entrepreneur Navigator and Program Director, StartUp Hutch.
