BUHLER, Kan. — The McPherson High School girls tennis team captured the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division III-IV championship Wednesday evening at the Buck Balzer Tennis Complex.
The Bullpups edged host Buhler by five points, 53-48. Wichita Collegiate placed third with 41, followed by Wellington (33), Winfield (25), Circle (20), Augusta (19) and El Dorado (13).
Buhler sophomore Sofia Spies repeated as league singles champion, defeating McPherson’s Maryn Sandbo 6-4, 6-1 in the title match. Spies, the No. 1 seed, received a first-round bye before posting wins of 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.

McPherson’s top-seeded doubles team of Quinn Liebl and Avery Unruh claimed the league title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wellington’s Cornejo/Thomson. Liebl and Unruh survived a tough quarterfinal match, rallying for a 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-8 win, then cruised 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals. Teammates Lleyton Kuhn and Mayson Wiens finished third in doubles play.
Buhler results:

- Doubles: Emily Allen/Kylee Bradshaw – 5th; Katelyn Harding/Addy Tech – 9th
McPherson results:
- Singles: Maryn Sandbo – 2nd; Dragon Rodriguez – 6th
- Doubles: Quinn Liebl/Avery Unruh – 1st; Lleyton Kuhn/Mayson Wiens – 3rd
