HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fox Theatre is preparing for its annual holiday movie series while introducing a new community talent competition scheduled for January.
Executive Director Josh Davies said the holiday season will begin with a special screening of "A Christmas Story" on Nov. 28, featuring an appearance by actor Peter Billingsley.
Billingsley, who played Ralphie Parker in the 1983 film, will participate in an onstage conversation and audience question-and-answer session following the screening.
"This is unique, and it's something that I've wanted to do for a long time because the Fox is the state movie palace of Kansas," Davies said. "Films are such an important part of what we do."
The event will lead into the theatre's annual Christmas film series, which is scheduled to begin the following weekend.
The Fox is also presenting a veterans film series in partnership with the Vieira Honors Foundation.
Looking ahead, Davies announced a new fundraiser called "Hutchinson's Got Talent," scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, 2027.
The competition will give local performers an opportunity to showcase their talents on the historic Fox Theatre stage.
The event will feature a panel of judges, prizes and a People's Choice Award.
"We're doing a Hutchinson's Got Talent on the stage at the Fox Theater," Davies said. "It is a fundraiser for the Fox, and it's something we just basically announced just a few days ago."
Auditions are being accepted, with information available through the theatre's website.
