Constance Joan “Connie” Owens, 84, went home to be with her Lord and friend, Jesus, on February 11, 2022. She was born March 21, 1937, in Kinsley, to Theodore M. and Audrey O. (Morris) McGill.
Connie attended primary school in Kinsley, grade school in Phoenix, AZ, high school in Hutchinson, and finishing school in Columbus, OH. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
On June 5, 1955, Connie married Leslie G. Owens, at 10th Avenue Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hutchinson, where they were members for 12 years. Later, Connie was baptized and became an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson. She loved her Lord and was active in evangelism and taught Christian education.
Connie worked as a business partner with her husband and sons in several business ventures. She liked to write and was a member of Kansas Author’s Club, where she held office and a manager of the Kansas State Writer’s Contest for Prose. Connie loved animals and was a supporter of Hutchinson Animal Shelter. She tutored at the Hutchinson Library, USD 308 grade schools, and the Salvation Army. Connie loved children and wrote stories, books, and a one-act play for the Primary Department of Sunday School, where she organized a fund-raiser to create a Children’s Christian Library. She was interested in civic matters and wrote many articles for the Western Front opinion page of the Hutchinson News.
Connie is survived by: her children, beloved daughter Stephany Miller and husband Jim of Aurora, NE, dear son, Brad Owens of Hutchinson; two precious grandchildren, Riley Miller and Cameron Owens; and sister, Marilyn Castor of Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; an infant daughter, Vicki Lynn Owens; dear husband, Leslie Owens; and dear son, Bret Owens.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
