The Hutchinson Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2025 Youth Academy, a free educational program designed for students entering seventh grade this fall.
The one-day academy will take place Thursday, July 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center, 210 West 1st Avenue.
The program offers hands-on experiences and interactive learning about law enforcement operations. Participants will tour the Law Enforcement Center and engage in activities including crime scene investigations, police vehicle demonstrations, emergency response team drills, firearms safety, K9 demonstrations, patrol operations, crash investigations, detective work, animal control, and a mock municipal court trial.
Lunch will be provided to all attendees.
Due to limited space, the academy is open only to Reno County youth entering seventh grade in the fall of 2025, including home-schooled students.
Applications must be submitted by June 27. Interested families can contact Captain Gates at 620-694-2825 for an application or more information.
The Hutchinson Police Youth Academy is a free, fun opportunity for local youth to learn about law enforcement and interact with officers in their community.
