HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz said that the House of Capper project is not going to be done as soon as originally hoped.

"We had estimated right around $600,000 to $800,000 to do that," Schulz said. "The lowest bid came in at just over $1 million. We're going out to do a little more fundraising with that.

The bid was accepted, but the work hasn't started.

"Construction should start shortly," Schulz said. "The only problem is, with all the steel issues, it will not be open for the 2022 Kansas State Fair. Unfortunately, we'll be probably finishing it up sometime late October."

The House of Capper was built in 1913. That makes it one of the oldest existing buildings on the fairgrounds.
