Tommy Duane Langhover
Born and raised in Wichita, where he lived most of his life. He attended Arkansas Avenue Elementary School where his love of sports began. He then transitioned to Junior High at John Marshall and then onto North High School before transferring to Valley Center High School where he excelled in basketball and set many records. A highlight of his basketball career was holding the highest scoring record at VCHS and in the state of Kansas in class AA, where he averaged 23.1 points per game. He was offered many scholarships due to his success in basketball.
He chose to attend Butler County Community College in Eldorado. After attending BCCC he joined the army and served faithfully for 4 years. He then attended Wichita State University, majoring in Biology. During this time, he built trailers for his uncle Solly at Langhover Trailers. While at WSU he met his future wife, Pamela Shaw and they married August 14th, 1964. They went onto have 5 children with one being lost before birth. He established himself at Continental Motors and later assumed full responsibility of the company, due to the untimely death of the owner. Later he was instrumental in the sale of the company for the owner’s family. He eventually ended up at Standard Motor Company as a territorial sales manager, where he would retire.
Hobbies he enjoyed: racing homing pigeons, where he was a member of the Wichita Homing Club and collecting coins. He never lost his love of sports, he attended as many professional and college sporting events as possible but what he truly enjoyed the most was watching his children and grandchildren play sports and coaching them whenever possible.
