RENO COUNTY

Rising water and storm damage have forced the closure of several Reno County roads beginning Monday, with officials warning motorists to avoid the affected areas until repairs can be completed.

According to Reno County Public Works, four road closures took effect Monday, June 29, due to flooding, high water and damage caused by recent heavy rains.

Parallel Road between Whiteside Road and Mohawk Road is closed until further notice because of high water covering the roadway.

A separate section of Parallel Road between K-14 and Yoder Road is also closed until further notice while crews remove trees from the area.

Bridge damage caused by high water has closed Maple Grove Road between Sylvia Road and Olcott Road. The closure will remain in effect until further notice while officials assess the damage and determine what repairs are needed.

Smoots Creek Road between Brownlee Road and Sylvia Road has also been closed indefinitely after high water damaged a bridge along the route.

County officials are urging drivers to obey all barricades and road closure signs and to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Motorists should seek alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the closures remain in place.

No timeline has been announced for reopening any of the affected roads. Reno County officials say the closures will remain in effect until floodwaters recede, damage can be evaluated and repairs are completed.
