Strataca, the popular underground salt museum in Hutchinson, has announced it will remain closed until further notice due to ongoing maintenance concerns.
The facility initially closed over the weekend following unexpected maintenance issues and briefly reopened earlier this week. However, further evaluation revealed the problem had not been fully resolved.
“Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of guest and staff safety, Strataca will remain closed until further notice as we continue to assess and address the matter thoroughly,” the organization said in a statement.
Strataca officials apologized for the inconvenience and said they are committed to keeping the public informed as they work toward a safe reopening. No timeline has been given for when the facility might resume normal operations.
Strataca is one of the region’s most unique attractions, offering visitors a chance to tour a working salt mine 650 feet below ground. It draws thousands of tourists each year.
