HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Zoo is preparing to celebrate a major milestone this weekend as the community attraction marks 40 years at its current location in Carey Park.
Zoo officials announced a 40th Anniversary Kickoff Event scheduled for Saturday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Organizers say the celebration is designed to recognize not only the Zoo’s history, but also the community support that has helped sustain and grow the facility over the past four decades.
Throughout the day, guests will be able to participate in a variety of anniversary-themed activities and experiences. Planned attractions include Animal Ambassador encounters, Mini Farm encounters and keeper talks, self-guided history stations and panels located throughout the Zoo, and a special anniversary scavenger hunt.
The first 250 scavenger hunt participants will receive commemorative magnets and prizes while supplies last.
The Zoo is also bringing back throwback pricing on train rides, with rides available for $1 each during the event. Birthday treats will also be distributed beginning at 1 p.m. while supplies last.
Zoo officials say the anniversary celebration is intended to honor the Hutchinson Zoo’s legacy, reflect on the community’s commitment to wildlife conservation, and look ahead to the Zoo’s future.
The Hutchinson Zoo encouraged longtime visitors and first-time guests alike to attend the celebration and help commemorate 40 years in Carey Park.
