WICHITA, Kan.—The second quarter of the TBL Conference round 2 playoff game between the Wichita Sky Kings and the Shreveport Mavericks proved to be significant as the Sky Kings had just taken a 41-29 lead over the defending National Champion Mavericks with 4:30 to go in the quarter. After "peel the paint off the floor" pep talk by Shreveport's head coach Steve Tucker, the Mavericks responded with three long range baskets by Shreveport's Ta Jordon and another two point basket over the next 90 seconds made the score 43-41 Sky Kings. The momentum swing had the Mavericks only trailing by 1 at the half 48-47.
The third period was back and forth with the game tied at 77 at the end of the quarter.
Shreveport pulled away by forcing Sky King turnovers to finally hit free throws down the stretch to seal a 110-106 victory.
Game two of the best of three series will be played Sunday in Shreveport in the Gold Dome at 6pm and can be viewed on the TBLTV.tv network.
