⚾ Rodden named AAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

IRVING, Texas – American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco announced Wednesday that Wichita State's Brock Rodden has been named the 2022-23 American Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year as chosen by the conference's faculty athletics representatives.

Rodden and South Florida women's basketball player Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, The American's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, will each receive a $4,000 postgraduate financial scholarship.

Rodden and Mendjiadeu were chosen from a group of 24 individual sport Scholar-Athletes of the Year who received $2,000 postgraduate scholarships.

Rodden, a native of Oktaha, Oklahoma, becomes the first Wichita State student-athlete to be named as The American's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is the fourth baseball player from the conference to be chosen in the last five years. Rodden was named as The American's Player of the Year after slashing .371/.474/.701 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs in 55 games. He was named an ABCA and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.

Rodden finished the 2023 spring semester with a 3.77 grade-point average as a health science major.
