The housing market in Reno County continued to show strength in May, with home sales increasing and prices climbing while inventory remained limited, according to the latest Mid-Kansas Multiple Listing Service Residential Market Snapshot released by Prairie Land REALTORS®.
A total of 76 homes were sold in Reno County during May, a 7% increase compared to May 2025. The average sales price rose 1.8% to $208,494, while the median sales price jumped 12.4% to $191,000.
Homes also sold more quickly. The median days on market dropped 33.3% to just eight days, indicating strong buyer demand. However, the average days on market increased 31% to 38 days, suggesting some properties remained on the market longer before selling.
Reno County ended the month with 1.7 months of inventory and 98 active listings, continuing a trend of limited housing supply.
Across the Mid-Kansas MLS region, which includes Reno, McPherson and Pratt areas, 141 homes were sold in May, up 5.2% from a year ago. The average sales price increased 1.2% to $204,699, while the median sales price was essentially unchanged at $179,000.
McPherson County posted some of the strongest gains in the region. Home sales rose 36% to 34 transactions, and the average sales price increased 4.6% to $223,817. Homes spent an average of 34 days on the market, down 17.1% from a year earlier.
Pratt County experienced a slower month. Sales fell 21.4% to 11 homes, while the average sales price declined 3.5% to $150,564. The median sales price dropped 11% to $138,000. However, Pratt County maintained the highest inventory level in the region at 4.3 months with 39 active listings.
The Mid-Kansas MLS reported 279 active residential listings and 2.3 months of inventory across the region in May, highlighting continued challenges for buyers seeking available homes despite steady sales activity and rising prices in many markets.
