MAIZE, Kan. - The Hutchinson Salthawk Boys traveled to Maize South High School on Friday night to play the Mavericks in a game that was postponed from January 7th which was tabbed by many as a must win game, only to see the Mavericks rally from a 10 point deficit in the first half to edge the Salthawks 54-48.

Hutchinson jumped out to a 30-20 lead midway through the second quarter, but Maize South rolled off eight unanswered points to get back into the contest to only trail at the half 30-28.

In the third quarter, Hutchinson only cashed in on one field goal by Terrell King, but did hit five free throws to lead 37-36 heading to the final quarter. Maize South didn't do much better only succeeding scoring two baskets and four free throws, but did cut the Salthawk lead to only one point.

The fourth quarter was back in forth with Maize South picking up the momentum by getting Hutch High's big man, Taishaun Govain fouling on at the 4:26 mark. That allowed the Mavericks Cy Stucky to score eight of his 15 points with two field goals and 4 of 6 shooting from the line to pull away from the Salthawks.

Lamar Govain had an off night but did have a chance to pull within two inside the final two minutes but went 2 for 3 at the line after being fouled on a three point shot.

Hutchinson was led by Terrell King with 18 points and Levi Kepler's 9 points. Lamar Govain had 8.

Hutchinson has now dropped their last six games after starting the season 4-1. Maize South has won 6 of their last 7 after starting the season 0-5.

Stucky led the Mavericks with his 15points followed by Stratten Ebers 13.

The same two teams match up on Tuesday, February 4th at the Salthawk Activity Center in Hutchinson with the opening tip at 7:30pm..
