Joan Kay Showalter |1949-2022|

Joan Kay Showalter, 72, died peacefully August 12, 2022, at her home in rural Haven, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was born November 8, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Harold D. and Lillian Lucille (Davis) Conrad.

Joan graduated from Haven High School in 1967, and received her associates degree from Hutchinson Community Junior College. She worked over 20 years as a bookkeeper for Yoder Elevator, and was also a homemaker. Joan enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, and shopping. Above all, Joan loved following her grandchildren as they took part in school activities. When it became too difficult to attend their events in person, Joan made sure she knew where her grandchildren were and what they were doing by way of technology; their cell phones. It was important to Joan for everyone to know their Lord and Savior. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years. In addition, Joan was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Haven, for over 50 years, had been a member of LWML and taught Sunday school.

On January 26, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, C.B. Showalter, at First Christian Church, Hutchinson.

Joan is survived by: her husband of over 54 years, C.B. Showalter of Haven; children, Ann Knepp (Gerald) of Hutchinson and their children, Caleb Hopkins and Noah Hopkins, and Noah’s son, Greyson, Wade Showalter (Stephanie) of Haven, and their children, Kirsten Rucker (Johannon), Cody Showalter, and Sarah Showalter, and Sarah’s son, Ezra, Penny Showalter of Hutchinson and her children, Lillianna Glacet and Carlie Glacet; sister, Rebecca Loden (Don) of Joplin, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn Showalter (Ethelyn) of Hutchinson, Vicky Saxton (Kelly) of Dallas, TX, and Mike Nichols (Chris) of Wichita; son-in-law, André Glacet; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8513 E. Arlington Road, Haven, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
