YODER, Kan. — An ambulance transporting a patient from Pratt to Wichita was involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Reno County.
According to Technical Trooper Wesley Gilmore of the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on K-96 near Yoder Road, east of Hutchinson.
The ambulance was en route from Pratt to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita when the crash happened. Authorities said the patient being transported was transferred to a Reno County EMS ambulance and taken to Wesley Medical Center following the incident.
Officials said an Ellsworth County EMS crew was returning home from a separate transport when they came upon the crash scene and stopped to assist. The Ellsworth County crew helped render aid to both the ambulance crew involved in the crash and the patient.
All members of the ambulance crew involved in the crash declined medical transport, according to officials.
The patient's condition and the reason for the original transport from Pratt to Wichita were not immediately available.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said that the ambulance left the roadway to the left, lost control, corrected back onto the roadway and then went back off the roadway, struck a guardrail overturned and came to rest in the median.
