
WICHITA, Kan. — Moundridge senior Kaizer Kanitz captured a state championship and several area athletes advanced to Saturday finals as Classes 1A, 2A and 3A completed most of their opening-day action Friday at the Kansas State High School Activities Association state track and field meet.
Some field events were suspended because of a weather delay Friday night and will resume Saturday at Crossland Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.
Kanitz won the Class 2A boys long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 2.75 inches. Sedgwick senior Noah Little finished second in the same event at 21-11.50.
Hesston senior Ashley Lehman had an impressive day on the track, posting the top preliminary times in the Class 3A girls 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Lehman set a meet record in the 400 preliminaries with a time of 54.02 seconds and finished the 200 preliminaries in 24.91.
Sterling senior Zane Farney also qualified for two finals, posting the top preliminary time in the Class 2A boys 110-meter hurdles and finishing second in the 300-meter hurdle preliminaries.
