Kansas man dies after head-on motorcycle crash

LINN COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 5:30p.m. Wednesday in Linn County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by Richard J. Coffey, 52, Fulton, Kansas, was westbound on E 2200 Road three miles east of U.S. 69.

The motorcycle crossed the center line into eastbound traffic and struck a 2007 Chevy pickup driven by Matthew S. Vanpelt, 37, Raymore, Kansas, head-on.

Coffey was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Schneider Funeral Home. Vanpelt was not injured. Coffey was not wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.
