🏀 WBB: No. 15 Blue Dragons cruise to seventh straight win

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team finished off its non-conference slate with an 80-54 win over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Tuesday evening at the Sports Arena.

No. 15-ranked Hutchinson (7-0, 1-0 KJCCC) had four players score in double figures, led by Journey Armstead with 14. Armstead also dished off four assists and knocked down six-of-eight shot attempts.

Hailey Jackson finished with her second double-double of her freshman campaign, going for 13 points and 10 rebounds. Monae Duffy also tallied 13 points and eight rebounds. Kiki Smith rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points. 

The Blue Dragons shot 57 percent from the floor in the first half to open a 51-19 lead after 20 minutes. The 51 points scored were the most scored by Hutchinson in a first half this season, as well as the 32 second-quarter points.

NOC-Tonkawa (1-7) struggled to score the ball in the first half, shooting just 18 percent on 7-of-38. The Mavericks came out strong in the second half and shot 42 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes, while outscoring the Blue Dragons in that stretch, 35-29.

Hutchinson finished 15-of-18 (83%) at the free throw line, the highest percentage in a single-game this season.

The Mavericks were led by Brooke Robertson with 13 points and Kaydrin Scott with 12 points. 

The win marked John Ontjes' 250th home win of his career as the head coach of the Blue Dragons. 

Hutchinson will return to Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday, hosting the Colby Trojans in the Sports Arena at 5:30 p.m.
