
HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The USD 308 Board of Education has announced Monday that Dr. Dawn Johnson will become Hutchinson Public Schools’ new superintendent upon the retirement of current superintendent, Mike Folks.
On Monday, February 14, 2022, the USD 308 Board of Education made the announcement that they have offered the position of superintendent to assistant superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson. Dr. Johnson has served as director of human resources for the district since June, 2021, and assumed the role of assistant superintendent in November 2021.
“While a global search was possible, the Board is confident it found the most qualified candidate in Dr. Johnson. Her understanding of the Kansas education landscape, her expertise and experience in multiple areas of administration and teaching are proven qualities. We look forward to working with Dr. Johnson as our next USD 308 Superintendent,” said Board President Greg Meredith.
Dr. Johnson has over 30 years of professional experience in education. She earned her Doctorate in Education from Wichita State University, and holds two Master’s Degrees. Before coming to USD 308, Dr. Johnson served as principal in USD 444 for six years and superintendent of USD 309 from 2016-2021. Before her shift to educational administration, Dr. Johnson taught high school English in the Central Kansas area.
In additional to education, Dr. Johnson has also served honorably in the US Army for over 35 years. Currently she serves as colenel in the Army Reserve and as the Brigade Commander for the 300th Sustainment Brigade in Grand Prairie, Texas.
“As a member of the Hutchinson community for over 25 years, I am honored to be taking on the role of superintendent in USD 308, and I am proud to be a part of such a resilient and dedicated district,” said Dr. Johnson.
Dr. Johnson’s official start date as superintendent will be July 1, 2022.
