The Hutchinson Police Department issued 85 speeding citations during a weeklong traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speed-related crashes and encouraging safer driving habits.
The department participated in the nationwide "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign from July 7-15, increasing officer presence on local roadways to enforce speed limits and educate motorists about the dangers of excessive speed.
According to the department, officers made a total of 160 traffic contacts during the campaign. In addition to the 85 speeding citations, officers issued 47 speed warnings and 12 citations for other traffic violations. One arrest was also made during the enforcement effort.
Police said the campaign focused on addressing speeding as an aggressive driving behavior that can have serious and potentially deadly consequences.
The enforcement effort was conducted in coordination with law enforcement agencies across the country as part of a national initiative to improve roadway safety and reduce speed-related crashes.
The Hutchinson Police Department encourages drivers to obey posted speed limits, remain attentive behind the wheel and recognize that slowing down can help prevent crashes and save lives.
