HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music will be performed by Stage 9 in Hutchinson this spring.
"First of all, it's going to be virtual," said Lynsey Becher with Stage 9. "The performers will be performing live. We will also be doing it concert style."
Concert performances of operas and musicals have been produced for centuries, and the Salzburg Festival, where the Von Trapp family sings in the play, traditionally includes such performances in its repertoire.
"We'll have a little bit of production," Becher said. "We will have costumes. We'll have some background and we will have some little props, but it will mostly be concert style."
Including the Von Trapp family children will stretch the cast past where Stage 9 typically goes.
"We're looking forward to seeing some new faces," Becher said. "Stage 9 is not usually the home of the children's theater. We leave that to Family Community Theatre who does it far superior than we do, but this is sort of a special age group, so we decided to go ahead and pursue this."
