Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the south end of Hutchinson in Carey Park on Emerson Loop.

Public golf courses in Hutchinson were largely unorganized until 1928 when there was a push to start one in Carey Park.

The Carey Park municipal golf course was built from 1928 to 1932.

In 1932, park superintendent Ralph McCarroll joined the effort to upgrade the course with the help of Emerson Carey. Professional Clarence Clark was hired as the first course pro. The clubhouse was situated on the south loop. The first photo shows the clubhouse some years later.

In 1949, the old Carey Lakes Golf Course clubhouse was donated to the city by the Carey family and moved to the Carey Park municipal course. It was placed on the north loop when the course had to be reconfigured for the flood control levee.

This old clubhouse was then used by numerous civic clubs, like the Civitans, until 1987. That's when park superintendent Tom Heintzman supervised its razing. He then designed a gazebo setup to replace it in that footprint. The second photo shows what that time frame looked like.

In 2026, the course decided to reconfigure and extend hole No. 15 to be a long par-5 fairway. The third photo shows what the old clubhouse property looks like today in its finished form.
