Fred L. Modlin, 83, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, in Inman, KS.
Fred was born on June 26, 1938, in Otego, KS, the son of Hugh L. and Ethel N. (Loomis) Modlin. On February 17, 1961, he married Joyce E. Houdek in Scandia, KS. To this union they were blessed with two boys, Terry and Bradly.
Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1956 to 1960, when he was honorably discharged after serving in the Vietnam era. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. After the military, Fred was elected sheriff for the Cloud County Sherriff Dept. and truly enjoyed his job retiring after serving 24 years in law enforcement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Phyllis O’Brien, Carol Garst, Douglas Modlin, Letha Garst and Curtis Modlin.
Fred is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Terry (June) Modlin and Bradley (Judy) Modlin; four grandchildren, Janae Beahan, Garrett Modlin, Alissa (Brandon) O’Neill and Rheanna (John) Lazzaro; three great grandchildren, Emery Beahan, Connor and Cali O’Neill and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, KS. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
