SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Rainiel Rodriguez homered twice, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the seventh inning, as the Springfield Cardinals rallied past the Wichita Wind Surge 7-4 Wednesday night at Route 66 Stadium.
Wichita erased a 3-0 deficit with four runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Brandon Winokur drove in the first run before Marek Houston tied the game with a two-run double. Khadim Diaw followed with an RBI single to give the Wind Surge a 4-3 lead.
Springfield answered with four runs in the seventh, using two doubles and Rodriguez’s second homer to regain control.
Diaw and Kala’i Rosario each had two hits for Wichita. Diaw extended his hitting streak to 11 games, while Houston pushed his on-base streak to 22 games.
Mitch Mueller struck out three over two scoreless relief innings. Wichita’s pitching staff finished with 10 strikeouts.
The Wind Surge have lost the first two games of the six-game series and all seven of their games in Springfield this season.
The series continues Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
