COLBY, Kan. – A trio of first-time winners have earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Volleyball Player of the Week honors in week 10 of the 2024 season as Hutchinson middle blocker Tiana Simmons along with Barton’s Elena Stankovic and Mina Kaneko take have been honored by the conference.
Offensive Player of the Week (Tiana Simmons – Hutchinson) – Redshirt freshman right-side hitter Tiana Simmons had a big week in a 5-1 stretch of games for the Blue Dragons. For the week, over 20 sets played, Simmons hit .313 and averaged 3.85 kills per set. She had two double doubles with 18 kills and 11 digs vs. the McPherson JV and 10 kills and 10 digs vs. Pratt. Simmons averaged 2.45 digs and 0.85 blocks per set last week.
Setter of the Week (Elena Stankovic - Barton) – Barton sophomore setter Elena Stankovic had a pair of double-doubles while leading the No. 8 Cougars to a 2-0 week. Playing in 8 sets, Stankovic keyed Barton's 6-2 offense, averaging 5.75 assists per set while contributing on the defensive end with 2.75 digs per set. Stankovic had double-doubles of 26 assists and 12 digs on the road against Dodge City and 20 assists and 10 digs against Garden City.
Defensive Player of the Week (Mina Kaneko - Barton) – Freshman Mina Kaneko averaged 6.25 digs per set anchoring No. 8 Barton's defensive line to a 2-0 week. Kaneko led the backline in a 3-1 road win at Dodge City with 22 digs behind a .952 receiving percentage and bumped a career-high seven assists. The freshman libero capped her week with a career-high 28 digs on a .958 service receive, with one service ace in the 3-1 win over Garden City.
