HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department is once again asking the community to help local students start the school year with the supplies they need through its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive.
The three-day collection event will take place Friday, July 24, from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Firefighters will accept donations at Walmart and the Dillons stores on 5th Avenue and 30th Avenue in Hutchinson.
Community members are encouraged to donate new school supplies, including backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, glue sticks, scissors and other classroom essentials.
All donations collected during the drive will remain in Reno County and will directly benefit local students, families and teachers as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
The department says the annual drive is designed to help ensure children have the tools they need to begin the school year ready to learn while easing the financial burden on local families.
The Hutchinson Fire Department also thanked the community and several corporate sponsors for supporting the effort, including Ad Astra Radio, Home Depot, Lowe's, Midway Motors and RCB Bank.
Residents are encouraged to stop by one of the collection sites during the scheduled times and help make a difference for Reno County students heading back to the classroom.
