Anna Belle Messick, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away March 3, 2022, at Life Care Center of Wichita. She was born August 23, 1937, in Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Edith Hubbard Manwarren. Ann has resided in Wichita for the past eight years, formerly of Hutchinson, Kingman, Claflin, Lyons, and Sterling, Kansas. She graduated from Sterling High School, Sterling, with the class of 1955.
Ann joined the Civil Air Patrol in High School and flew every chance she had, even though she ended up so sick, but she never gave up. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Kingman, and member of the Crystal Rebekah Lodge #173 of Lyons. Ann loved gardening, canning, sewing, and camping. She enjoyed taking bus trips and watching her grandchildren’s activities, and most of all spending time with her family.
On April 2, 1955, Ann was united in marriage with Buddy Ray Messick in Sterling, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cynthia Lannon; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Ruth Manwarren; and brother-in-law, Clifford Waggoner. Ann is survived by her son, Clarence Messick and wife Lori of St. John, KS; daughter, Clairissa Maddy and husband Steve of Wichita, KS; son-in-law, Lynn Lannon of Kingman, KS; two sisters, Violet Waggoner of Wichita, KS, and Nancy Phillips of McPherson, KS; nine grandchildren, Shanon Maddy, Shelbe Maddy, Samantha Roche and husband Mathew, Sara Ballard and husband Brian, Maggie Jackson and husband Greg, Emily Messick, Curtis Lannon, Colin Lannon and wife Emily, and Rayanna Goering and husband Ethan; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will follow at Raymond Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to Serenity Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
