Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the 200 block of North Main on the east side.
In 1910, Ryan's Cafe at 214 N. Main St. and the Stallman Brothers Harness Shop at 208 N. Main St. were lost in a fire. The first photo shows the harness shop right before the fire.

In 1911, the Edwards Brothers built a new building for the McBurney Dry Goods Co. The second photo shows the building on opening day.

In 1912, the Pegues-Wright Dry Goods Co. came to Hutchinson from Junction City. It replaced McBurney's and bought the building in 1919. The company flourished under the leadership of Lindsey Pegues. The third photo shows the company in 1930.

The fourth photo shows the company in 1935.

The fifth photo shows the front of the building during the 1941 Prairie Pow Wow.

Henry Pegues became president in 1936 as the company continued its high-end success. The sixth photo shows Pegues in 1971.

In 1979, Sam Ontjes became president of the company. It remained successful until closing in 1999 after an 87-year run with John Brennan serving as the last store manager. The seventh photo shows the building today at 210 N. Main, now remodeled into Pegues Lofts & Offices and owned by the B2 Financial Group L.L.C. out of Tampa, Florida.
