Mary Ellen Torrez, or “Frances” as she was known by many, 79, died Friday, October 29, 2021, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born October 1, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Petronilo and Rejina (Moreno) Navarro.
Mary graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1960. She worked as a retail sales associate for Sears and Walmart, and as a homemaker. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.
On January 28, 1961, she married Francisco “Frank” Torrez, Sr., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, when it was located on Avenue E and Adams, Hutchinson.
Mary is survived by: her husband of almost 61 years, Frank; children, Frank Torrez, Jr. (Bridget), Karen Torrez, Joe Torrez (Cathy), and Lisa Torrez, all of Hutchinson; sisters, Angelina Rivera of Hutchinson and Carmen Mello of Las Vegas, NV; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Raymond G. “Ray” Torrez; and seven brothers and sisters.
Parish Rosary will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2021, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson, with Father Eric M. Weldon officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Chapel.
