HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson Salthawks overcame a slow start to eventually get their ground game going Friday night eliminating Salina South from the class 5A playoffs 42-7 at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson.
Cade Smith scored 4 touchdowns to move his total yards on the season to 1,573 and 17 touchdown totals.
Salina South was able to move the ball on their first possession including going for it on 4th and 7 near midfield until their next 4th down attempt failed allowing the Salthawks to drive down and score the first touchdown on the night.
Hutch led 14-0 at the half and 28-7 at half-time.
Unlike the last meeting back in September when the Salthawks shut out the Cougars 47-0 finishing with a running clock in the second half, this night in November finished with a regulation clock which allowed several Salthawk freshman and sophomore getting significant playing time giving Hutchinson fans a look at the future of Salthawk football for next season.
Hutch High, now 7-2 on the season will host Liberal next Friday night at Gowans Stadium. Liberal defeated Wichita Bishop Carrol 17-6 in Liberal Friday night. The Redskins are also 7-2 on the season.
