HAYS – The sixth-seeded Hutchinson Community College volleyball team was looking for another Region 6 Tournament upset Saturday and after two sets against Colby, the Blue Dragons had their shot.

But the second-seeded Trojans dominated the third set and held off the Dragons in the fourth set for a 25-19, 20-25, 25-14 25-22 victory over Hutchinson in the Region 6 Tournament semifinal at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.

The Blue Dragons close out the 2025 season – head coach Dayana Acevedo Trent's first at Hutchinson – with a 15-17 record and the program's first regional semifinal appearance since 2022. Colby will play top-seeded Barton for the regional championship at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Hays.

The Blue Dragons struggled offensively against No. 14 Colby and its big block that produced 11 blocks against the Blue Dragons. For the match, Hutchinson hit just .036 on 136 attacks with 33 kills.

Hutchinson saw one team record fall on Saturday and freshman libero Clara Oliveira's 22 digs against Colby gave her 643 digs for the season, which sets a new Blue Dragon freshman digs record and is No. 2 on Hutchinson's overall single-season digs list.

Sophomore Jaylynn McNeill led the Blue Dragons in the semifinals with 10 kills and a career-high eight blocks. McNeill hit .111 on 36 attacks. She also had five digs.

Sophomore Alondra Villanueva finished with nine kills and hit .006 on 31 attacks. Villanueva had 13 digs and two blocks.

Freshman Mattie Galliher had six kills on 20 attacks, hitting .150. Galliher had six blocks. Sophomores Kierny Follmer and Atlyn Proctor had three kills each.

Freshman setter Alexandra Garcia posted her fifth double-double of the season with 32 assists and a season-high 17 digs.
