A pair of Hutchinson Community College volleyball players earned KJCCC Player of the Week honors for their huge roles on a big road victory on Saturday.
Sophomore right-side hitter Jaylynn McNeill was named the conference's Division I Player of the Week. For the second-week in a row, freshman libero Clara Oliveira was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Hutchinson defeated Seward County 3-1 on Saturday in Liberal. The Blue Dragons made sizable late comebacks late in each of the sets they won, including trailing 19-14 in the fourth set.
Jaylynn McNeill – Player of the WeekMcNeill, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Houston, 14 kills on .370 hitting in the set victory over Seward County.
Down 19-14 in the fourth, McNeill carried the Blue Dragons to a 25-22 match-clinching win with six kills on nine attacks in the set.
McNeill is the second Blue Dragon to win conference honors this season, joining sophomore Atlyn Proctor, who won the award in Week 2.
Clara Oliveira – Defensive Player of the WeekOliveira is a 5'3 freshman from Matonsinhos, Portugal. Oliveira had 35 digs in a four-set victory over Seward County. This was Oliveira's third match this season with 30 or more digs and helped the Blue Dragons continue to battle for conference tournament seeding.
Oliveira is a repeat winner of the award, earning conference honors last week.
